How do I Test the Chlorine Level in my Spa?
You can use Clearwater Dip Tests to check the chlorine and pH levels in your hot tub. You should test the water before every use to check that the chemical levels are correct and safe and also that the pH is between 7.6 and 7.2.
How do I Change the Chlorine Level?
If you need to increase the amount of chlorine in your hot tub, then this can be achieved by sprinkling the chlorine granules directly in to your spa water (if your water temperature is over 20°C) or alternatively by pre-diluting in a container of warm water (this method should always be used if your applying to a hot tub with a water temperature of under 20°C). Try adding chlorine a little at a time to prevent over chlorination.
If your hot tub becomes over chlorinated then you should wait for the chlorine level to naturally drop (this will happen on its own over a period of days) and re-test before using.
How do I Manage PH Levels?
For Chlorine Granules to work effectively and efficiently, the pH levels in your hot tub must be kept at the optimum level. Clearwater Dip Tests or the Bestway Aquatest can also be used to test the pH levels in your Lay-Z-Spa. The optimum pH level for your hot tub is between 7.6 and 7.2.
If the pH of your spa water is above 7.6 then please use Clearwater pH Minus to reduce it, using the application instructions on the bottle. If the pH of your spa water is below 7.2 then please use the Clearwater pH Plus to increase it, using the application instructions on the bottle.
The container of 5kg Chlorine Granules is printed with guidelines and cautionary information so please refer to the these in detail before using the product. You can also take a look at our useful Hot Tub Water Health and Lay-Z-Spa Chemicals Guide in our Buyers Guide section for more information about using chemicals in your hot tub. Clearwater Chemicals are manufactured and sold specifically with the Bestway Lay-Z-Spa in mind, however they are also enjoyed by other brands of inflatable spa and above ground pool users.
What is Shock Dosing and how do I Shock Dose my Spa?
Shocking your Lay-Z-Spa water refers to adding large quantities of chemicals (maybe 5-10 times the normal dose) in order to break down any organic waste and contamination and re-establish a positive level of sanitisation. Please read our full guide to shock dosing to ensure you follow the reccomended method for shock dosing your specific Lay-Z-Spa model.
It is important to shower before every use of your Lay-Z-Spa to wash off natural oils that accumulate on your body as well as any deodorants, moisturisers etc. This will help your filters to last longer, reduce the quantity of chemicals that you use treating the spa and also increase the lifetime of your pump.
